Password Generator User Guide

Introduction

This Password Generator is a simple yet effective tool designed to create secure, random passwords. It calculates and displays password strength and entropy, and offers options to copy the password to the clipboard or download it as a text file.

How to Use

1. Opening the Generator:

   • Open the HTML file containing the password generator in any web browser.

2. Generating a Password:

   • Click the Regenerate button to generate a new random password.
   • The generated password will be displayed under the Password: label.

3. Copying the Password:

   • To copy the password to your clipboard, click the Copy Password button.
   • A notification will alert you that the password has been copied.

4. Downloading the Password:

   • To download the password as a .txt file, click the Download Password button.
   • The file will be saved to your default downloads folder or you will be prompted to choose a location, depending on your browser settings.

5. Understanding Password Metrics:

   • Password Strength: Indicates how strong or weak the password is, based on length and character variety. It will display either Strong or Weak.
   • Password Entropy: Represents the measure of password unpredictability. A higher entropy value indicates a more secure password.

Tips for a Stronger Password

• Use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Longer passwords are generally more secure.
• Avoid common words and easily guessable patterns.

Technical Details

• The password generator uses a combination of letters (both lowercase and uppercase), numbers, and symbols.
• The default password length is set to 12 characters, but this can be adjusted in the code if a different length is desired.
• The entropy calculation considers the variety of characters used and the length of the password.

Customization

To customize the password length or the character set, you can modify the generatePassword function in the script.
